Located in Missouri, Drury University was one of the founding schools in the Midwest Esports Conference and is lead by esports coach Michael Jones. Drury Esports is the varsity program for their school, and they are currently offering or recruiting for mainstay esports titles such as League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, and various CCGs (such as Hearthstone, Legends of Runeterra, and MTG Online.)
Based out of Des Moines, Iowa, Grand View University has a longstanding history in esports and was a founding member for the Midwest Esports Conference. The program is currently overseen by Nathan Ragsdell, their Director of Esports.
"Grand View University Esports became a sanctioned program and sport in August 2017. Grand View was the first higher education institute in Iowa to introduce a varsity program as well as the offering of esports scholarships. Grand View’s program continues to exponentially grow in players and titles offered! We compete in League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, Fortnite, Valorant and Super Smash. In addition, we field Junior Varsity teams where roster sizes demand."
Mizzou Esports, University of Missouri's official esports team, is a founding member of the Midwest Esports Conference. They are overseen by Kevin Reape, their General Manager.
"Mizzou Esports launched in August 2019 and supports varsity rosters for the games Rocket League, Overwatch and League of Legends. Our teams practice and compete in the 5,000-square-foot MSI Training Facility on campus, one of the largest university gaming facilities in the nation. We have traveled across the country to compete on-stage at other universities and at events like DreamHack Atlanta, where we won the 2019 Rocket League NACE Championship. Our program has always maintained an average 3.0+ GPA in the classroom."
While Purdue NW's esports team wasn't one of the founding members of the Midwest Esports Conference, current PNW Head Coach Justin Bragg had previously lead Illinois College's esports team in past MEC years. PNW currently supports League of Legends and Rocket League, but are expanding into offering additional titles such as Overwatch, Hearthstone, Super Smash Bros., and Call of Duty.
League of Legends teams from across the Midwest are invited to apply for Conference membership. Open invitational fall events are currently slated for November 2021 and will be fully virtual. Apply for the full conference by November 30th and have the chance to take part in on-site LAN tournaments--over $20,000 is on the line for our students next semester, plus the chance to compete in the official Riot Games College League of Legends Championship Series!
